The beauty of language: ขอโทษ (khoo thoot)

My previous post reminded me of a Thai word: ขอโทษ (khoo thoot) which means "I'm sorry". It literally means "asking punishment" (khoo = ask, thoot = punishment).

It's really a humbling word as when you say sorry, you acknowledge that you deserve and you ask for a punishment. Sometimes I demand forgiveness rather than accepting the so-called-punishment.

So at times when it is very hard to say sorry and accept the consequences of my mistake, I should remember this word:  ขอโทษ (khoo thoot)
